The Proposal by Anton Chekhov

Stepan the Father loves Ivan the suitor. Stepan the Father wants Ivan the suitor to marry Natalya the daughter. Ivan the Suitor wants to marry Natalya the daughter. Natalya the daughter wants to marry Ivan the suitor.
So the path is clear for the proposal. Isn't it? The Proposal is a one-act farce by Anton Chekhov, written in 1888-1889 and first performed in 1890. Chekhov wrote a number of short farces which were very popular at the time. The Proposal is a fast-paced play of dialogue-based action and situational humour.

Presented as part of the Kildare Readers Festival.

14th & 15th May, Osprey Hotel, Naas.

Directed by Fiona White

How We Roll....

devise+conquer theatre company was established to provide a space for new work – whether that be a new script, a devised performance or a new take on an old idea.  We don’t aspire to originality but we strive to find a new way to look at things.

devise+conquer don't have the answers and want to provoke you to question. Why this text, this place, these people, this time? In an age where people are taught to consume, we want to devise + conquer, provoke people to think, question and create.
