‘Time’ to Get a Victorian Twist as Chekhov takes the Stage.

As part of the Inaugural Kildare Readers Festival Time Bar and Venue will get a taste of the Victorian era as Chekhov’s farce ‘The Proposal’ takes to the stage.

Presented by devise+conquer theatre company ‘The Proposal’ is a fast paced witty farce about the two most important things in a marriage – power and property. Ivan wants to marry Stepan’s daughter – and Stepan wants this marriage to go ahead. Natalya wants to marry Ivan – so everything should run smoothly when we get to the Proposal shouldn’t it?

Full of faintings, fist fights and freak outs this one-act play, under the direction of Fiona White is set to send the Readers Festival off to a flying start.

The Proposal will play in Time Bar and Venue on Fri 14th at 7pm, and in the Osprey Ballroom on Sat 15th at 6pm as part of the Kildare Readers Festival – tickets for the performance (and all events in the festival) are free and can be booked through krf@kildarecoco.ie

Karen McCartney

When asked as a child what Karen wanted to be when she grew up her reply was always, ‘I want to be an actress’. She attended the National Performing Arts School for two years as a child but lost confidence in her ability. She went on to spend seven years performing music. While attending two acting workshops in Berlin in order to improve her performance on stage as part of a band, her passion for acting was re-awakened. Since then she has gone on to study acting at the Gaiety School of Acting and the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art.
